DPS Plan

I have only made one draft for my DPS plan. This is because I feel this is the best way to lay out a DPS. I will use my model (Henry Sergeant) to use an eye catching photo which will set the scene for the viewer to want to read the article because the left page will be scene first.

Contents Page Plan

I will be using this draft layout for my real contents page. I've done this because the spacing allows me to have a lot of space for images which will attract customers because a picture implies that the story is one of the main stories so having lots of images will suggest that I have lots of big artists in my mag.

Front Cover Plan

Front cover plans:

I will be using the first page layout for my front cover because it allows most white area to be covered which means the front cover will be packed with cover lines to persuade a potential customer to buy my magazine.

Plan

Media magazine plan

Magazine name: I searched ‘musical words’ onto google and looked at a list. Encore was a standout word for me. A lot of the words weren’t effective as a magazine name, such as lyrics, or key words were already used as magazine names such as vibe. Encore was the obvious choice for me to have as my magazine name because it seems like an indie genre because it has a simple effect to it. Also, I used Encore because an Encore a repeated or additional performance of an item at the end of a concert, as called for by an audience so this allowed me to be able to have the magazine slogan as: ‘Encore, bringing music back to life’ because indie music isn’t as popular in modern times so Encore is bringing indie and rock music back.

Colour schemes: I’m going to be using red, blue and black in my magazine with some grey. I’m doing my masthead using a red box with a white font inside. This means it stands out on the front cover. Also, I will be using blue and black because they are original and simple colours, which symbolizes rock music.

Fonts: For my masthead I will be using a font downloaded from dafont.com. The font I have decided to use it babas neaur because it’s bald, simple and stands out very well. For my cover lines, story fonts I will be varying the style of Palantino font from indesign. For fonts such as the date I will use the italic version, for cover lines I will use bald and for my articles and small font it will be the original version of the font.

Photos: For my front cover photo I will be using my brother. He will be wearing a jacket, which is similar to jackets that a mod musician such as Liam Gallagher wears. For my contents page I will be using various photos, which will vary from, live and other photos of people I know. I will be attending a gig at The Fleece in Bristol to take photos for my contents page. Also, I will be taking a picture of my other brother, George, for my contents page wearing a parka to also fit into the role of a mod. My photoshoot like photos will be taken in my back garden and the front cover and double page spread photos will be edited to make the background white. Also, in the double page spread my brother, Henry, will be wearing a hat that is stereotypically a hat warn by hats.
Cover lines: For my cover lines I will be using real musicians of my genre and relate it to real life situations in music. For example, I will add a cover line about Pete Doherty and how he has been to rehab. Also, I will mention ‘What made them legends’ and mention artists such as The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix that are in magazines such as NME and Q who also follow my genre.

Main story: My front cover of the magazine is going to be my brother. In the front cover I will have his name in large writing as the headline. I’m thinking about putting a pull quote from his interview under or above the title to attract people to read the article. From my research I like double page spreads that have a picture on the left page and a article on the right so that is what I’m going to do. I’m going to have an interview on the right page in columns to make it look professional.

Photo schedules: Front cover and double page spread photo will be taken after school in my garden on 22nd November. I want my brother to look aggressive and serious to give him a cocky mod status like Liam Gallagher and Jake Bugg. I also want Henry to look aggressive in the dps photo and striking a pose to attract people to the article. Also, I will take a picture of George, my other brother, will also be taken in my garden. I want him to wear his parka so that he can fit into the stereotype of a mod.

My photos for my contents pages that I will be taking at The Fleece of local bands will be taken on Friday the 21st of November.

Double Page Spread Research

This double page spread appeals to the magazines audience because the magazine is for indie rock and rock fans and this double page shows Pete Docherty from the band The Libertines which is a well known band of this genre. Also, the headline of this article says Pete Docherty is "in good health" which will appeal to fans and the audience of this magazine because Pete Docherty is well known and publisised for being a drug addict and often going to rehab and to see a headline saying that he is healthy is good news for the fans because it means that he might be able to play live gigs which appeals to fans largely. Lastly, this article also appeals to it's audience because in the middle collum it shows a pull quote which means the quote stands out because it's something that people want to read about.

This double page spread from the magazine 'Q' shows that it appeals to it's audience because Q focuses on many genres but worlwide music acts. Lady Gaga is a worlwide musician and well known which appeals to Q's readers because people are interested in her because she is often know as unique. Often magazines rely on a big fonted headline and pull quotes to make the article appealing. However, this double page spread doesn't have this which is quite effective to appeal to the audience because it mean the readers have to read the article to have an idea what it's about which means it is more likely readers will read the whole article.

This pop music magazine also appeals to it's audience because it shows Justin Bieber having an article about him saying that girls give him headaches which massively appeals to the audience because strictly speaking Justin Biebers fans are mainly girls which means that quote could cause attraction from fans but in a negative way for Justin but in a positive way for the magazine.
