Double Page Spread Research

This double page spread appeals to the magazines audience because the magazine is for indie rock and rock fans and this double page shows Pete Docherty from the band The Libertines which is a well known band of this genre. Also, the headline of this article says Pete Docherty is "in good health" which will appeal to fans and the audience of this magazine because Pete Docherty is well known and publisised for being a drug addict and often going to rehab and to see a headline saying that he is healthy is good news for the fans because it means that he might be able to play live gigs which appeals to fans largely. Lastly, this article also appeals to it's audience because in the middle collum it shows a pull quote which means the quote stands out because it's something that people want to read about.

This double page spread from the magazine 'Q' shows that it appeals to it's audience because Q focuses on many genres but worlwide music acts. Lady Gaga is a worlwide musician and well known which appeals to Q's readers because people are interested in her because she is often know as unique. Often magazines rely on a big fonted headline and pull quotes to make the article appealing. However, this double page spread doesn't have this which is quite effective to appeal to the audience because it mean the readers have to read the article to have an idea what it's about which means it is more likely readers will read the whole article.

This pop music magazine also appeals to it's audience because it shows Justin Bieber having an article about him saying that girls give him headaches which massively appeals to the audience because strictly speaking Justin Biebers fans are mainly girls which means that quote could cause attraction from fans but in a negative way for Justin but in a positive way for the magazine.

Contents Page Research

Front Cover Research

This NME’s cover attracts it’s audience because the colours on the cover are bald and stand out such as the red on the cover. Also it appeals to the customers because most people that read NME are interested in ‘Arctic Monkeys’ so the bald writing of the story is Alex Turner saying “the record that changed my life” which would also appeal to NME’s audience because people are interested in was inspires and influences Alex Turner.
This also appeals to the magazines audience because it is a pop magazine and ‘Eminem’ is a very popular music artist that people want to read about. Also, the white logo with the background makes the name of the magazine to attract attention to shoppers. Also, the articles on the left side also will attract attention because they are in white and green fonts which stand out from the black background.

This magazine cover appeals to its audience because ‘Kerrang’ is for rock fans and stereo-typically they like dark colours and this magazine shows dark colours to appeal to them. Also, ‘Green Day’ are arguably the biggest punk/rock band in this era so that also appeals to the audience. Lastly, this cover appeals to the audience because the other stories on the left stand out as one says “WTF” in a big font which will attract customers to want to read about it.

Magazine House Styles

House Style - a company's preferred manner of presentation and layout of written material. Magazines use various things to create a house style. For instance, font types, logo, colouring and the layout.

Kerrang’s house style appeals to its target audience of rock and heavy metal fans because they house styles shows a lot of black and dark strong colours which stereotypically rock fans like. Also, it appeals to its target audience because the magazine has a big reputation of including interviews with famous bands that people are interested in.

NME’s house style consists of red, yellow, black and white. This is effective because all the colours stand out next to one another. NME’s target audience is indie rock fans and the house style appeals to the audience because the colour red for example is a very original colour which could represent indie music because indie music is very original because it doesn't include lots of technology.

We heart pop has a target audience for young people from 8-12. This is shown with the colour pink and the artists that are shown on the cover are like by younger people such as One Direction and Jessie J. The colour scheme matches the target audience because bright colours such as pink are stereotypically liked by young girls which will appeal them to buy the magazine as One Direction's fanbase is often young girls.
